In 1988, we opened our first business in Queensland – Ipswich Mobile Brakes. After eight great years at that location, we found ourselves drawn to the north and east, to beautiful Burrum Heads in the Hervey Bay coast region. Here, we became Fraser Coast Mobile Brake Service, and this is where we started our (and Australia’s) first mobile brake hose service. We’ve been on the road – and in the shop – building brake hoses ever since. Here’s the way it came about.
After years of servicing brakes, we discovered a problem that was costing our customers unnecessary time, inconvenience and money. Often, we’d be in the middle of a brake job only to find that a hose unexpectedly needed replacing. At this point we’d first have to order a new one and either keep a car in the shop while waiting for it by post or close up the system and have the customer leave with only a partial brake job done, returning days later so it could be complete. In some cases it could take even longer, when a specific hose was hard to find.
We took a look at our disc machine and asked ourselves – couldn’t there also be a machine in shop that makes hoses? So we built one. And in 2000, we purchased our first Brakequip Mobile hose machine, which could make (and quality test) hoses right on the spot. Eventually, we sold our brake business to focus solely on the parts.
